Transitioning from journalism to politics in 2018, Huang initially represented the New Power Party in the city council before becoming an independent councilor in 2022. Joining the Democratic Progressive Party last August, she seized an unexpected opportunity to run for a parliamentary seat.

Her campaign journey in Kaohsiung was marked by whirlwind visits to temples and markets, where she emphasized her political vision over her sexual orientation. Despite facing skepticism and discrimination, she emerged victorious, showcasing Taiwan's evolving societal norms.

However, Huang's path to political prominence hasn't been without hurdles.
